Untitled To the east, General Anton Ivanovich Denekin, who had became commander of the anti-Bolshevik ("White") forces in southern Russia in April 1919, by the beginning of 1919 controls the northern Caucasus; in May he launches a major offensive, advancing through Ukraine toward Moscow, he succeeds in stopping temporarily both Petlyura and the Bolsheviks.
