Untitled Chelmno's inmates are from the Lódz ghetto and from 36 communities in western Poland. Also sent to Chelmno are 88 children from the Czech town of Lidice, whose population is decimated as a collective reprisal for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in May 1942. The existence of Chelmno is no secret. A Jewish escapee in June 1942 gets word of the camp . . .
