An army raised by the Castilian nobility, now threatened in their own estates by the comunero movement of which they were formerly a part, defeats the comuneros at Villalar on April 23, after which the movement’s leaders, including captain-general Juan de Padilla, are caught and executed.
The power of Castilian government is thus reestablished, with Habsburg Emperor Charles V gaining more power.
