Jean Vauquelin (February 1728 – November 10, 1772) is a French naval officer.
Vauquelin comes to Canada as part of the naval force involved in the Seven Years' War, arriving in 1758 in command of the frigate Atalante.
Ensuing action involves Louisbourg and the naval battles with the British on the St. Lawrence.
In 1760, he and his badly damaged ship are captured, the ship burned and Vauquelin imprisoned by the British.
His bravery had impressed his foes, who soon release him for return to France.
