Shamshi-Adad I (fl.
late 18th century BCE (short chronology) is an Assyrian king.
He rises to prominence when he carves out an empire encompassing much of Mesopotamia, Syria and Asia Minor.
After his death, Assyria is soon defeated by Hammurabi of Babylon and remains in the shadow of the Babylonian Empire throughout this period.
