1825 Miramichi fire

Subject Catastrophe 1825 CE

The 1825 Miramichi fire, or Great Miramichi Fire as it will come to be known, is a massive forest fire complex that devastates forests and communities throughout much of northern New Brunswick in October 1825.

It ranks among the three largest forest fires ever recorded in North America.

About one third of the homes in Fredericton are destroyed, but the main devastation is one hundred miles (one hundred and sixty kilometers) to the northeast.
