A superior Ottoman army under Ahmed’s grand vizier, Baltaji Mehmed Pasha, drives the Russians back to Pruth River, where Peter, who has received no expected aid from Slavs, Moldavians, and Wallachians (with all of whom he has secret alliances) and whose troops are suffering from lack of supplies, enters into peace negotiations.
