Years: 532 - 675

The peace that many generations of Cypriots enjoy during the middle centuries of the first millennium is shattered by Arab attacks during the reign of Roman (Byzantine) emperor Constans II (641-68).

Sometime between 647 and 649, Muawiyah, the emir of Syria (later caliph of the Muslim empire), leads a seventeen-hundred-ship invasion fleet against Cyprus.

Constantia is sacked, and most of its population massacred.
