Years: 731BCE - 731BCE

Ahaz, after Assyria defeats Syria and Israel, presents himself as a vassal to the Assyrian king.

Not only is Judah's political situation unimproved; Assyria also exacts a heavy tribute and introduces Assyrian gods into the Temple at Jerusalem (2 Kings 1-6 Isaiah 7-8).

Ahaz introduces a new Aramaean-style altar in the Jerusalem Temple and adopts other foreign customs that will be counted against him in the book of Kings.
