Years: 175 - 175

The Romans now turn their focus from the Quadi to the Iazyges living in the plain of the river Tisza (expeditio sarmatica).

After a few victories in 175 a treaty is signed.

According to its terms, the Iazyges King Zanticus delivers one hundred thousand Roman prisoners and, in addition, provides eight thousand auxiliary cavalrymen, most of whom (five thousand, five hundred) are sent to Britain.

It is not known what part they play in subsequent British history.

Marcus upon this victory assumes the title "Sarmaticus".

He may have intended to campaign against the remaining tribes, and together with his recent conquests establish two new Roman provinces, Marcomannia and Sarmatia, but whatever his plans, they are cut short by the rebellion of Avidius Cassius in the East.
