Barakah had sent Qalawun and Baysari, two …

Years: 1280 - 1280

Barakah had sent Qalawun and Baysari, two of the most powerful amirs, to raid Cilician Armenia and Qal'at al-Rum, a powerful Armenian fortress on the river Euphrates, in 1279, as a way of keeping them busy and away from the seat of power.

Each has ten thousand troops.

Al-Said's plan had been to have both of them arrested on their return, but another amir, Kuvenduk, had warned them of the plan, and when they return, al-Said is forced to abdicate.

His seven-year-old brother Sulamish is placed on the throne in his place, under the guardianship of Qalawun, who becomes the effective sultan and soon deposes Sultamish.

Exiled to Al Karak fortress, in Jordan, Barakah dies here in 1280 (it will be rumored that Qalawun had him poisoned), and his brother Khadir gains control of the castle, until 1286 when Qalawun will take it over directly.
