Henri de Tonti had left Fort Crevecoeur …

Years: 1680 - 1680
April

Henri de Tonti had left Fort Crevecoeur with Father Ribourde and two other men on April 15, 1680, to begin fortifying the settlement at Starved Rock.

The remaining seven men pillage Fort Crevecoeur of all provisions and ammunition and destroy the fort the next day; most of them flee back to Canada.

Joining Tonti at Starved Rock, two men who had been at the fort tell him of the fort's destruction.

Tonti sends messengers to La Salle in Canada to report the events.

Tonti then returns to Fort Crevecoeur to collect any tools not destroyed and moves them to the Kaskaskia Village at Starved Rock.
