Iberville enters the Birdfoot Delta in March …
Years: 1698 - 1698
Iberville enters the Birdfoot Delta in March 1699, but it is only after meeting some natives who recall La Salle that he is sure that this is the Mississippi.
Having achieved his first aim and finding no good sites in the delta, he builds a temporary fort at Biloxi, leaves a garrison of eighty-one men, and returns to France.
