The treaty of Saint-Germain, signed on September 10, 1919 by representatives of Austria on one side and the Allied Powers on the other, officially registers the breakup of the Habsburg empire, recognizing the independence of Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, and the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (Yugoslavia) and ceding eastern Galicia, Trento, southern Tirol, Trieste, and Istria.
