1173–74, Revolt of

Years: 1173 - 1174

The Revolt of 1173–74 is a rebellion against Henry II of England by three of his sons, his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine and rebel supporters.

It lasts 18 months and ends in the revolt's failure: Henry's rebellious family members have to resign themselves to his continuing rule and are reconciled to him.

“That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons that history has to teach.”

― Aldous Huxley, in Collected Essays (1959)
