Anglo-Scottish War of 1482
Years: 1482 - 1482
Berwick upon Tweed and its castle are captured by the English in 1482 during the Anglo-Scottish Wars.
By the Treaty of Fotheringhay, June 11, 1482, Alexander Stewart, Duke of Albany, the brother of James III of Scotland, declares himself King of Scotland and swears loyalty to Edward IV of England.
The follow-up invasion of Scotland fails to install Albany on the throne, but the border town of Berwick upon Tweed will remained English from the time of the castle’s surrender on August 24, 1482.
The English army leaves Edinburgh with a promise for the repayment of the dowry paid for the marriage of Princess Cecily of England to the Scottish Prince.
