Years: 1877 - 1877

The Battle of the Big Hole is fought in Montana, August 9–10, 1877, between the U.S. Army and the Nez Perce tribe of Native Americans during the Nez Perce War.

Both sides suffer heavy casualties.

The Nez Perce withdraw in good order from the battlefield and continue their long fighting retreat that will result in their attempt to get to Canada and asylum.

"Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past...Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street and building has been renamed, every date has been altered."
