Big Hole, Battle of the

The Battle of the Big Hole is fought in Montana, August 9–10, 1877, between the U.S. Army and the Nez Perce tribe of Native Americans during the Nez Perce War.
Both sides suffer heavy casualties.
The Nez Perce withdraw in good order from the battlefield and continue their long fighting retreat that will result in their attempt to get to Canada and asylum.
