Char Bouba war or Mauritanian Thirty Years War

Years: 1644 - 1677

The Char Bouba war (variously transliterated as Sharr Bubba, Shar Buba, etc) or the Mauritanian Thirty Years War, takes place between 1644-74 in the tribal areas of what is today Mauritania and Western Sahara.

It is fought between the Sanhadja Berber tribes resident in the area, led by Lamtuna Imam Nasr ad-Din, and the Maqil Arab immigrant tribes, foremost of which is the Beni Hassan.

"Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past...Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street and building has been renamed, every date has been altered."
