Dalton Minimum

Years: 1790 - 1815

The Dalton Minimum, a period of low solar activity, lasting from about 1790 to 1830, is named for the English meteorologist John Dalton.

Like the Maunder Minimum and Spörer Minimum, it coincides with a period of lower than average global temperatures.

Low solar activity seems to be strongly correlated with global cooling.

"Biology is more like history than it is like physics. You have to know the past to understand the present. And you have to know it in exquisite detail."

― Carl Sagan, Cosmos (1980)
