Ethiopian Civil War

Years: 1974 - 1991

The Ethiopian Civil War begins on September 12, 1974 when the Marxist Derg stages a coup d'état against Emperor Haile Selassie, and lasts until the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), a coalition of rebel groups, overthrow the government in 1991.The war overlaps other Cold War conflicts in Africa, such as the Angolan Civil War (1975-2002).

“History is not a burden on the memory but an illumination of the soul.”
