Fulani War, or Usman's Jihad

Years: 1804 - 1810

The Fulani War of 1804-1810, also known as the Fulani Jihad or Jihad of Usman dan Fodio, is a military conquest in present day Nigeria and Cameroon.

Expelled from Gobir by his former student Yunfa in 1802, Islamic reformer Usman dan Fodio assembles a Fulani army to lead in jihad against the Hausa kingdoms of the north.

Realizing the threat that Usman's forces poses, Yunfa assembles the other Hausa rulers to oppose him.

"In fact, if we revert to history, we shall find that the women who have distinguished themselves have neither been the most beautiful nor the most gentle of their sex."

― Mary Wollstonecraft, A Vindication... (1792)
