Northern Rebellion, or Rising of the North

Years: 1569 - 1569

The Rising of the North of 1569, also called the Revolt of the Northern Earls or Northern Rebellion, is an unsuccessful attempt by Catholic noblemen from Northern England to depose Queen Elizabeth I of England and replace her with Mary, Queen of Scots.

"Human history becomes more and more a race between education and catastrophe... Yet, clumsily or smoothly, the world, it seems, progresses and will progress."

― H.G. Wells, The Outline of History, Vol 2 (1920)
