Persian Revolt

Years: 552BCE - 549BCE

The Persian Revolt, as it is known, is the first time the unified province of ancient Persis, after voluntary submission to the Assyrians and Medes two times earlier, declares its independence, and commences its revolution as it later separates from the Median Empire.

However, it is unknown whether their subjugation was official.

The revolt is triggered by the actions of Astyages, the ruler of Media, which spreads to other provinces, as they ally with the Persians.

The war lasts from 552 BCE to 550 BCE.

The Medes have early successes in battles, but the comeback by Cyrus the Great and army is too overwhelming, and the Medes are finally conquered by 549 BCE.Thus the first official Persian Empire is born.

It all begins in the summer of 553 BCE, and leads to the rise of Persia.

"History should be taught as the rise of civilization, and not as the history of this nation or that. It should be taught from the point of view of mankind as a whole, and not with undue emphasis on one's own country. Children should learn that every country has committed crimes and that most crimes were blunders. They should learn how mass hysteria can drive a whole nation into folly and into persecution of the few who are not swept away by the prevailing madness."

—Bertrand Russell, On Education (1926)
