Rome, Sack of (546)

Years: 546 - 546

The Sack of Rome in 546 is carried out by the Gothic king Totila during the Gothic War of 535–554 between the Ostrogoths and the Byzantine Empire.

Totila is based at Tivoli and, in pursuit of his quest to reconquer the region of Latium, he moves against Rome.

The city's defenses hold firm however, so he decides to starve the city into surrender.
