Serbian Uprising, Second

Years: 1815 - 1817

The Second Serbian Uprising (1815-1817), a second phase of the national revolution of the Serbs against the Ottoman Empire, erupts shortly after the annexation of the country to the Ottoman Empire.

The occupation is enforced following the defeat of the First Serbian Uprising, during which Serbia existed as a de facto independent state for over a decade.

The second revolution ultimately results in Serbian semi-independence from the Ottoman Empire.

The Principality of Serbia is established, governed by its own Parliament, Constitution and its own royal dynasty.

De jure independence follows during the second half of the 19th century.
