Third Jewish-Roman War, or Bar Kokhba's Revolt

Years: 132 - 135

The Bar Kokhba Revolt against the Roman Empire is a second major rebellion by the Jews of Iudaea and the last of the three Jewish-Roman Wars.

Simon bar Kokhba, the commander of the revolt, is acclaimed a Messiah (rather than The Messiah), a heroic figure who could restore Israel.

The revolt establishes a Jewish state for over two years, but a massive Roman army finally crushes it.

The Romans then bar Jews from Jerusalem.Jewish Christians, who hail Jesus as the Messiah, do not support Bar Kokhba but are barred from Jerusalem along with the rest of the Jews.

The war and its aftermath help differentiate Christianity as a religion distinct from Judaism. The rebellion is also known as The Third Jewish-Roman War or The Third Jewish Revolt.

“A generation which ignores history has no past — and no future.”

― Robert A. Heinlein, Time Enough for Love (1973)
