Vancouver Expedition

Years: 1791 - 1795

The Vancouver Expedition (1791–1795) is a four-and-a-half-year voyage of exploration and diplomacy, commanded by Captain George Vancouver.

The expedition circumnavigates the globe, touches five continents and changes the course of history for the indigenous nations and several European empires and their colonization of the Americas.

The expedition at various times includes between two and four vessels, and up to 153 men, all but six of whom return home safely.

“The lack of a sense of history is the damnation of the modern world.”

― Robert Penn Warren, quoted by Chris Maser (1999)
