Years: 1805 - 1805

In the Battle of Wertingen (October 8, 1805) Imperial French forces led by Marshals Joachim Murat and Jean Lannes attack a small Austrian corps commanded by Feldmarschall-Leutnant Franz Xaver von Auffenberg.

This action, the first battle of the Ulm Campaign, results in a clear French victory.

Wertingen lies twenty-eight kilometers (seventeen miles) northwest of Augsburg.

The combat is fought during the War of the Third Coalition, part of the Napoleonic Wars.

"In fact, if we revert to history, we shall find that the women who have distinguished themselves have neither been the most beautiful nor the most gentle of their sex."

― Mary Wollstonecraft, A Vindication... (1792)
