White River War

Years: 1879 - 1880

The White River War, also known as the Ute War, or the Ute Campaign, is fought between the White River Utes and the United States Army in 1879, resulting in the forced removal of the White River Utes and the Uncompahgre Utes from Colorado, and the reduction in the Southern Utes' land holdings within Colorado.

The war signals the final defeat of the Utes and opens millions of new acreage to settlement

"[the character] Professor Johnston often said that if you didn't know history, you didn't know anything. You were a leaf that didn't know it was part of a tree."

― Michael Crichton, Timeline (November 1999)
