Grace Horsley Darling, an English lighthouse keeper's daughter, aids her father in the rescue of survivors from the shipwrecked Forfarshire on September 7, 1838.
The paddle steamer had had foundered on the rocks on the Farne Islands off the coast of Northumberland in northeast England and broken in half; one of the halves had sunk during the night.
Nine members of her crew are saved.
