A youth of unknown origins suddenly and…
May 1828 CE
A youth of unknown origins suddenly and mysteriously appears on the streets of Nuremberg in May 1828; apparently bewildered and incoherent, he can neither walk nor speak.
With him he has a letter purporting to have been written by a laborer, into whose custody, it stated, the boy had been delivered on October 7, 1812, with the proviso that he should be instructed in reading, writing, and the Christian religion but kept in close confinement.
Enclosed with this letter is one purporting to have been written by the boy’s mother, giving his name and his date of birth and stating that his father was a deceased cavalry officer.
He is given the name Kaspar Hauser.
