'Abd al-Wahhab, initially disciplined by the scholars, is now to face prosecution.
However, the Banu Khalid chief of Al-Hasa demands the death of the reformer on pain of withholding annual gifts from the province and even of invasion.
'Uthman, unable to face this danger but unwilling to kill his guest, elects to banish 'Abd al-Wahhab from his territory in 1744.
'Abd al-Wahhab moves some forty miles from 'Uyaynah to Ad-Dir'iyah, since 1726 the seat of the local chief Muhammad bin Saud, head of the Al-A'nnza tribe and a member of the prominent Al-Saud family, allegedly an enemy of the Ottomani Khilafah (the Islamic State).
The people flock to the teaching of the innovative preacher, and in 1747 he and the Sa'udi chief soon seal their alliance by mutual oaths of loyalty.
The expansion-minded Muhammad bin Saud embarks on a war of conquest against the enemies of the new dispensation, bringing 'Uyaynah and portions of Al-Hasa under Wahhabi control.
