Alexander von Humboldt makes a short visit to the United States after departing Mexico, staying in the White House as a guest of President Thomas Jefferson.

Jefferson, a scientist himself, is delighted to have Humboldt as a guest and the two hold numerous intense discussions on scientific matters.

After six weeks, Humboldt sets sail for Europe from the mouth of the Delaware.
