British forces are largely concentrated on Manhattan…
July 1779 CE
British forces are largely concentrated on Manhattan Island, but Joseph Brant, a Mohawk war chief and a Captain in the British army, has been sent along with his Brant's Volunteers on a quest for provisions, to gather intelligence on the Delaware in the vicinity of Minisink, and to disrupt the upcoming American Sullivan Campaign.
He receives word in July of 1779 that Casimir Pulaski's forces have moved into Pennsylvania, leaving much of the Delaware Valley undefended.
Brant leads his force of loyalists and Iroquois raiders through the valley, with the goal of seizing supplies and demoralizing the colonists.
The settlers are forced to flee to more populated areas, and Brant pursues them.
He reaches Peenpack, attacking it immediately on July 20.
Brant orders that "they should not kill any women or children" or Loyalists and to take prisoner any who surrender.
His raid a crushing success, Brant and his force leave Fort Decker and the settlement in ruins and continue north along the Delaware River.
