John Bell Hood blames the entire debacle…
January 1865 CE
John Bell Hood blames the entire debacle of his campaign on his subordinates and the soldiers themselves, but his career is over.
He retreats with his army to Tupelo, Mississippi, resigns his command on January 13, 1865, and is not given another field command.
Forrest returns to Mississippi, but later in 1865 he will be driven into Alabama by James H. Wilson, and his command will become dissipated and ineffective.
