Another Dutch force tries to again engage…
September 1663 CE
Another Dutch force tries to again engage the Esopus on their territory in early September, this time successfully.
The battle ends with the death of the Esopus chief, Papequanaehen, as well as several other men, women, and children.
The natives flee, and the Dutch, led by Captain Martin Cregier, a French Huguenot settler of New Amsterdam, pillage their fort before retreating, taking supplies and prisoners.
This effectively ends the war, although the peace is uneasy.
