1879 CE
Argentinian author Jose Hernandez, in his epic poem “Martin Fierro,” writes nostalgically of the vanishing life of the gaucho and country dweller while championing the victory of urban civilization in South America.
Standing as the pinnacle of gauchesque literature, the poem had apparently begun during a period of exile in Brazil following the defeat at Ñaembé (1871) and has been published in two parts (in 1872 and 1879).
