Argyll sails to Scotland and, on arriving…
June 1685 CE
Argyll sails to Scotland and, on arriving there, raises recruits mainly from among his own clan, the Campbells.
The rebellion is quickly crushed, and Argyll himself is captured on June 18, 1685, at Inchinnan.
Having arrived with fewer than three hundred men and unable to persuade many more to flock to his standard, Argyll had never posed a credible threat to James.
He is beheaded on June 30 in Edinburgh.
