The Slovaks chafe under the Hungarians, and the Czechs are ruled by Vienna.
The Austrian and Hungarian parts of the empire have different political systems.
Austria has a parliamentary government, and a gradual enlargement of
the franchise will culminate in universal male suffrage in 1907.
The Czechs, therefore, will be able to take a greater and greater part in the political life of Austria.
In Hungary the franchise will continue to be fairly restricted and largely controlled by the Hungarian aristocracy.
Because of this, very few Slovaks will gain positions of importance in Hungary.
