Basilius Valentinus, allegedly a Benedictine monk of the fifteenth century whose name appears on chemical writings over a span of two centuries, purportedly writes a book summarizing available knowledge of antimony and its compounds.
Appearing in the seventeenth century, the book describes a method for the extraction of antimony from stibnite.
A later chemistry textbook by French chemist Nicolas Lémery, published in 1707, also describes methods of preparation of antimony, giving the first adequate description of the element.
