September 1872 CE
Lieutenant Colonel George Crook has ‘pacified’ the Paiutes of Oregon territory between the years 1866 and 1870.
President Ulysses S. Grant next places Crook in command of the Arizona Territory.
Crook's use of Apache scouts during the Yavapai War will bring him much success in forcing the Yavapai and Tonto Apache onto reservations.
Crook has conducted a lengthy investigation into the Wickenburg massacre, and has finally identified all the participants.
He has tried to arrest the ringleaders, but failing, sends Captain J. W. Mason to Burro Creek, where he encounters both guilty and innocent natives in three rancherías.
Forty natives are killed and ten captured in the battle that follows.
