1743 CE
Bienville ends his final term (multiple times over forty-three years) as Governor of colonial French Louisiana, which he has helped colonize, having spent most of the past decade occupied in wars with Native Americans.
The new governor, Pierre de Rigaud, Marquis de Vaudreuil-Cavagnal, arrives in 1743, and Bienville sails back to France.
Even in France, however, Bienville will do what he can to aid the colony he had worked so long to build, seeking unsuccessfully to prevent the transfer of the colony from France to Spain.
