Bolivia, under the command of General Mariano Melgarejo, joins the alliance and declares war on Spain on March 22, 1866.

In this way, all the ports of the Pacific coast of South America south of Colombia have become closed and hostile to the Spanish fleet.

On the other hand, Argentina and Brazil have refused to join the alliance, involved as they are in the war against Paraguay.
