General Bragg had been able to check…
March 1865 CE
General Bragg had been able to check Cox's advance only momentarily.
Schofield's forces have been reorganized into the Army of the Ohio and from Wilmington he has marched inland to join with the rest of Sherman's forces.
At the same time, he has assigned Major General Jacob D. Cox to direct Union forces from New Bern toward Goldsboro.
Cox's advance is stopped on March 7 by divisions under Bragg's command at Southwest Creek south of Kinston, North Carolina.
