HMS Warrior, the world's first ocean-going (all)…
October 1861 CE
HMS Warrior, the world's first ocean-going (all) iron-hulled armored battleship, had been commissioned into the British Royal Navy in August 1861 to conduct her sea trials, and completed on October 24, 1861 for £377,292, almost twice the cost of a contemporary wooden ship of the line.
The ship is initially assigned to the Channel Squadron under the command of Captain Arthur Cochrane.
Between March and June 1862, defects exposed during her trials will be rectified, and damage repaired.
Changes include the fitting of a lighter bowsprit and a shorter jib boom, along with the provision of extra heads amidships.
