George Boole founds symbolic logic in his An Investigation of the Laws of Thought, on Which are Founded the Mathematical Theories of Logic and Probabilities.
Boole’s work on mathematics (Boolean algebra) lays the basis for all binary operations, the basis of all modern computer arithmetic. (Boole's work, as well as that of his intellectual progeny, would remain relatively obscure except among logicians, and seemed to have no practical use, but he is regarded in hindsight as one of the founders of the field of computer science.)
