The British under General Lord Amherst, with their Colonial and native (chiefly Mohawk) allies, retake Oswego and capture Fort Frontenac on the Canadian side of the St. Lawrence, then force the surrender of the fortress of Louisbourg by mid 1758.
Within two weeks a deportation order is issued for the Acadians of Île St. Jean (Prince Edward Island).
The English authorities have given up on their earlier attempts to assimilate the Acadians into the American colonies and now want them returned directly to France.
