August 1540 CE
Calvin's friends had soon begun to urge him to marry, presenting to him several candidates including one young woman from a noble family.
Reluctantly, Calvin had agreed to the marriage, on the condition that she would learn French.
Although a wedding date had been planned for sometime in March 1540, he had remained reluctant and the wedding never took place.
Instead, in August of this year, he marries Idelette de Bure, a widow who has two children from her first marriage.
