Charles manages to flee England in disguise after six weeks of narrow escapes, landing in Normandy on October 16, despite a reward of one thousand pounds on his head, risk of death for anyone caught helping him and the difficulty in disguising the unusually tall king, whose height exceeds six feet (one hundred and eighty-five centimeters).
