Crazy Horse has spent several months with his band at the Red Cloud Agency amid an environment of intense politics.

The Army, fearing that he was about to break away, had moved to surround his village and had arrested the leader on September 4, 1877.

Having slipped away to the Spotted Tail Agency, Crazy Horse is brought back to Camp Robinson the following day with the promise that he can meet with the post commander.

Instead, he is taken to the guard house under arrest.

During his struggle to escape, he is fatally bayoneted by a soldier.
